Helping Children Make Sense of Their Inside World

Children don’t just ā€œoverreact.ā€

They don’t melt down, shut down, cling, control, or apologise for everything for no reason.

Underneath most big reactions is something protective.

Something learned.
Something that once helped.
Something that still feels necessary.

I write stories for children who feel things deeply — and for the adults who want to understand them better.

The Alex Series gently explores the hidden meaning behind children’s emotional responses, helping families move from confusion and frustration to understanding and safety.

The Sam Series

The Sam books are designed for children aged approximately 5–11.

Each story focuses on one confusing adult behaviour seem in coercive, toxic, narcissistic or domestic violence dynamics.

The books explain the behaviour in a child appropriate way, acknowledge their feelings, challenge their beliefs, encourage them not to normalise these behaviours and most importantly, tells your child that this is not their fault.

The Alex Series

The Alex books are designed for children aged approximately 6–10.

Each story focuses on one common protective pattern. These are the behaviours we often see

but don’t always fully understand.

Instead of labelling children as difficult, dramatic, controlling, or oversensitive, these books help adults

see what might be happening underneath.

A note from me

These stories were first written purely for my own children to enjoy.

They began as quiet conversations after big feelings, as words I needed when nothing else seemed to help.

I’m currently preparing the manuscripts so they can be shared more widely.

Thank you for your patience while I carefully bring this series to life.

About the Guide for Grown-Ups

You probably already have shelves full of children’s books.

This isn’t about adding another story.

It’s about having one that helps you see differently.

Each Alex book includes a thoughtful Guide for Grown-Ups that explains:

• What the behaviour might be protecting
• Why it often shows up most at home
• What language helps
• What tends to make things worse
• How to build long-term emotional resilience

No heavy clinical language.

No alarmism.

Just grounded, child-centred understanding.
